Gallery C is proud to announce The Color of Musicgroup exhibition in celebration of world-famous violinist Midori’s residency with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. The exhibition features the work of 20 area artists of all ages that submitted their work to Dubuque Symphony Orchestra’s The Color of Music Art Competition. The competition is in honor of violinist Midori’s upcoming weeklong residency with the DSO and DSO Youth Ensemble in May 2016. Area artists were invited to submit original work inspired by Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, the piece that Midori will perform with Dubuque Symphony Orchestra on May 7 and 8. Area judges chose first place winners from three categories: elementary school, middle school/high school, and college/adults. The winners receive tickets to the Midori concert with DSO, complimentary art class at Dubuque Museum of Art, and exhibition at Gallery C, April 8-May 1, 2016. The art competition and the exhibition are a collaborative project between Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Dubuque Museum of Art, and Gallery C in celebration of Dubuque’s rich and ever-evolving arts community.
Gallery C is pleased to host The Color of Music’s winning artists and their families during the Opening Reception on Sunday, April 8 from 1-3 p.m. Meet the artists and hear about their process and inspiration for these colorful works. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this community exhibition, and to participate in the Historic Millwork District’s innovative and growing art scene. The reception is free and open to all ages. Refreshments will be served.
