The ever changing world is even more intriguing when viewed through the creative channels of your mind. Fragment of Imagination combines the surreal and abstract imagery of digital artist Osvaldo Buccafusca with the dreamlike ceramic works of Justin Schortgen. Together these pieces create a fantastic environment to be interpreted through your own experiences, culture and influences.
Osvaldo Buccafusca was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a previous century. He resided most of his young life in Buenos Aires until the winds of life brought him to the United States. He spent time in Iowa and California, before settling in Colorado with his family. Osvaldo considers himself an Art Explorer who utilizes computer technology to produce compelling contemporary imagery. His artistic journey started with Photography. At the age of 10, he got his hands on a simple Gevaert camera and became enchanted with the notion of capturing his surroundings. It took almost nine years and a financial anomaly for him to buy his first SLR camera, and there was no turning back. In the past twelve years he has also expanded his artistic voyage into Digital Art, focusing on the paradoxical relationship between art and mathematics. During this same period, Buccafusca earned a Ph.D. degree in Engineering which may explain his choosing of the computer as his artistic tool.
University of Iowa graduate student Justin Schortgen is currently a Teaching Assistant/Instructor of Ceramics I and II. He is a young artist that is exploring the opportunity of merging art and technology together and creating interactive installations. He is an avid wood fire practitioner, and has a broad amount of experience in the field from participating at The Pottery Workshop, in Jingdezhen, China, to giving various artist lectures.
